Where Three Decades of Wildlife Photography Meets Uncompromising Quality
A PASSION BORN IN THE AFRICAN BUSH
Our story begins in the 1980s, in the lowveld of South Africa, where working proximity to Kruger National Park offered something extraordinary: regular access to one of Africa’s greatest wildlife sanctuaries.
What started as weekend escapes into the bush became a lifelong obsession. Those early encounters – the first time seeing a leopard draped across an acacia branch, the ground-shaking presence of an elephant herd at dawn, the electric tension of watching a lion pride on the hunt – they changed everything.
Kruger became more than a park. It became a teacher, a meditation, and ultimately, the foundation of a photography practice spanning three decades.
THIRTY YEARS OF PATIENCE, OBSERVATION, AND RESPECT
Serious wildlife photography demands more than expensive equipment and good light. It requires understanding. Patience. Respect for the animals and their space. Recognition that you’re a guest in their world, not the other way around.
Dozens of returns to Kruger over thirty years – each trip measured in early mornings, long hours of waiting, and countless moments when nothing happened – have taught us how to see beyond the obvious. How to anticipate behavior. How to recognize that split second when an animal reveals not just appearance, but character.
Every image in our collection represents not just a moment captured, but years of understanding earned.
THE BIG FIVE: WHERE IT BEGINS
We’re launching with Africa’s most iconic wildlife – the Big Five.
These legendary animals represent the pinnacle of safari experience, and they deserve photography that honors their presence:
**AFRICAN LION** – Raw power tempered by surprising tenderness in family groups
**AFRICAN ELEPHANT** – Gentle wisdom in 6,000kg packages, matriarchs leading multigenerational families
**CAPE BUFFALO** – Unpredictable power and intelligence, earning their “Black Death” reputation among old-school hunters
**RHINOCEROS** – Ancient survivors now facing modern extinction, ambassadors for conservation urgency
Each species is represented through black and white fine art photography that emphasizes texture, presence, and the timeless quality of these remarkable animals.
Starting with the Big Five allows us to establish our standard for quality before expanding to other species – cheetah, wild dog, giraffe, and beyond. This is a focused launch, not a scattered approach. Everything in its time.
WHY BLACK AND WHITE
Colour is beautiful. But black and white reveals something deeper.
Remove the distraction of golden sunlight and green acacia, and what remains is essence: the sculptural quality of muscle and bone, the texture of skin weathered by African sun, the intensity of eyes that have known both hunter and hunted, the weight of presence that commands respect.
These aren’t decorative animal portraits. These are studies in character – images designed to stop viewers in their tracks, to evoke that same sense of awe that grips you when you encounter these animals in the wild.
Our clients tell us our work has a “wow factor.” That moment when someone first sees one of our prints and simply stops. That’s what we aim for with every image.

THE PLAYFUL EDGE BEHIND OUR NAME
You might wonder about “Cheeky” in our name.
It started with a photographer’s problem: dozens of superb wildlife shots where the animal had turned away at the crucial moment. Elephant rears. Buffalo departing. Rhino backsides.
The idea of pairing these “wrong angle” shots with humorous captions – “Nice Arse, Shame About the Face” under an elephant’s rear – seemed like brilliant fun. And it is.
But market research suggested that serious wildlife art collectors and our core target clients were seeking something more substantial. So we’ve focused our launch on fine art black and white prints that command respect in any setting.
The playful range exists. It waits for the right moment. Perhaps once we’ve established our reputation for uncompromising quality, we’ll unleash the cheeky side. The name reminds us not to take ourselves too seriously while taking our craft very seriously indeed.

CONSERVATION: WHERE PROFIT MEETS PURPOSE
These animals face unprecedented threats. Habitat loss. Poaching. Human-wildlife conflict. Climate change.
Beautiful photography matters. But protecting the subjects matters infinitely more.
We’re establishing partnerships with front-line conservation organizations – particularly those working in anti-poaching efforts to protect rhinos and other threatened species. A percentage of every sale directly supports this critical work.
When you invest in Cheeky Wild Art, you’re not just acquiring museum-quality wildlife photography. You’re contributing to the protection of the very animals we photograph.
We’re particularly proud to support the South African anti-poaching dog charity, whose K9 units form the front line in the battle against wildlife crime. These extraordinary dogs and their handlers risk everything to protect animals that cannot protect themselves.
